One of the most exquisite hotels in Swindon and the surrounding area is Whatley Manor. Rated 5 stars and situated just a couple of miles away from Malmesbury, Whatlely Manor is the type of place you only go to on special occasions and any stay will certainly be a memorable one. The hotel is situated in 12 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, has a restaurant with head chef being none other than Martin Burge who was recently awarded his second michelin star and has bespoke contemporary designed bedrooms with fine furnishings. Perhaps on top of all this, though, the hotel has "Aquarias", its own European style spa, which is what this article is going to focus on.

Golfing Hotels

I have been visiting many cities in UK due to my passion for traveling and discovering different places. When my friends and I travel, we make sure that we go to different golf courses and play just to relax from the stress we get from work. During the course of my travels, I have experienced staying in different kinds of hotels and inns. There are some that provided me with great service and comfortable stay. There are some that I would definitely not enter again. Among the different cities we’ve been to, Swindon was our favorite town. There are many hotels wherein you could book a reservation when you visit Swindon, but there are three hotels that we frequent most often. These are also my personal favorites:

Hotels in Swindon Town Centre

With humble origins as a barter trade hub, the town of Swindon in Wiltshire United Kingdom has developed into the progressive and busy town it is today. Its traditional courtyards and rustic accommodations, and modern pubs and other various establishments present a combination of past and the present.

Swindon’s Town Centre’s vast array of sights and services showcase the town’s versatile nature. The Brunel Centre presents a range of options for the modern shopper, with high-class establishments like Marks and Spencer, Argos, Waterstones, and Virgin Megastore. Alongside are retail outlets, like Deja Vous and John Antony. The pedestrian shopping areas like The Parade, Canal Walk, and Regent Street also hold high-end shopping establishments like Debenhams, Woolworths and H&M. Museums, theatres, and restaurants are also available.

Family owned hotels

I consider myself pretty close to my family and now that my work takes me a continent away from them, I try to get whatever semblance of family life I can find in my surroundings. On my week offs I drive to Swindon, a small and booming industrial town in Wiltshire where I frequent at one of several family hotels a rustic yet memorable stay. My wife and I enjoy having a relaxing time whilst the kids go wild, it's the perfect family break.

My favorite is cozying up in the morning to beautifully embroidered linen sheets and having a delectable breakfast served by a friendly smile and warm greetings. I don't have a particular favorite when it comes to picking which family hotel in swindon I chose to stay, I suppose I'll just share some of my great experiences with a few of them so that it's easier to understand why it's hard to pick just one.

Spa Hotels

Living a fast paced and stressful life, I often find myself in search of a weekend getaway where i can get pampered and treat myself to the luxury of massages, great food and Spa breaks. One of the best hideaways that I frequent is the Swindon spa Hotels because of their luxury, privacy and personal touch. Surprisingly, Swindon is one of the best places to find Spa Breaks with its established industry in hospitality and lodging accommodations. You will be treated to fine cuisine, world class accommodations and the best part of it is that there is no tourist overcrowding because most Swindon Spa hotels are small. What they lack in floor area they make up for in luxury.

Hotels hit hard by economic climate

A new report published in Wiltshire Business online states that Swindon Hotels are continuing to feel the effects of the economic downturn. The new statistics won't come as much of a surprise to many people, although some are shocked by the significance of the slowing room rate in comparison to only a year earlier.

The figures from PKF Consultancy Services shows that average hotel occupancy has shrunk 11.4% from 72.8% in June 2008 to 64.5% in 2009 with average room rates down by 8.1% from £63.94 in 2008 to £58.73 in 2009.

Quoting from the report, Neil Dimes, a partner of PKF explained that the occupancy levels in Swindon are "heavily reliant" on business people travelling to and from the town. In the current economic climate, busiensses are constantly looking for ways to cut costs and overnight accommodation is one of those areas which gets hit.

Secret Rooms in Swindon!

Under lock and key and behind closed doors you'll find some of the most prestigious and executive 4 and 5 star hotels are prepared to let you stay for a snip of their advertised price! Being less than happy to publicly announce that anyone can stay in an executive room for a fraction of the usual cost, or to alienate other guests who may well be paying up to three times more per night, you don't know where you are staying until the reservation has been made!

A romantic weekend full of surprises

This is for those of you who think a romantic weekend away is a night in a 3 star hotel with a widescreen television and local pub on the corner. If you lack inspiration then print this post off, because it will be your best friend when treating that special someone to the weekend that they deserve. Lagers and newspapers are strictly forbidden, the sports channel can be forgotten about (don't you know they show replays of the big matches during the week that follows?!) and mobile phones are switched off! These are the rules, now for the itinerary.

You'll check into a four star hotel late on a Friday night having driven to a secret destination. Blindfolding her works, but of course a better option is to lock her in the boot and show her who's boss. It will be the perfect start to your romantic weekend away.

Swindon and Cricklade Railway

Families will enjoy a visit to the Swindon & Cricklade Railway to go back in time and see what trains and railways used to be like. The attraction, run by railway enthusiasts, offer train services on most weekend days, public holidays and school holiday wednesdays. A round trip on this railway line takes 24 minutes and services depart from Blunsdon, arrive at South Meadow Lane and then make the return journey.

5 Things to do in Swindon

Swindon isn't exactly renowned for being a popular tourist destination. The likelihood is that if you're visiting Swindon, you're here because it's in a great location to access places like Avebury, Stonehenge and other pretty places in the not too distant outskirts of the town. However, even though there is a certain stigma attached to the town, people are surprised with the amount it has to offer. I'm going to run through a few things that you can do in Swindon should you have some free time to spare:

Stonehenge

Stonehenge is one of the wonders of the world, a symbol of ancient achievement and a testament to the skills of our distant ancestors. It is a 40-ton rock formation which dates back nearly 5,000 years, and is on Salisbury Plain near Amesbury. Stonehenge is a Druid Stone Circle and was a traditional site for pagan worship. It is part of a larger complex of monuments either side of the nearby River Avon.
